Biography
Relias was a central character in shaping the Kingdoms of Men in the Third Age, and much of the history surrounding him is muddied by rumor and slander.
Early Life
Orphaned when thieves burned his clan's camp on the outskirts of New Pariden, Relias was raised by a caring scholar and devoted himself to learning.
Conflicting accounts say he was instead born to nobility within the walls of New Pariden as the third son of Lord and Lady Tice. Rather than a scholar, these accounts claim hew learned hand-to-hand combat from General Carrodus of Capitar and was only interested in sport, drink, and whoring. These accounts, which can be found in the Fallen Enchantress games, are propaganda created by New Pariden to slander Relias's character after he defected and founded Altar.
Eastern Expedition
In 150 AC, Relias was tasked by the Queen of New Pariden to survey the Eastern Continent. During this expedition, Relias discovered that Kraxis had allied themselves with the Fallen. This knowledge cost Relias the life practically his entire crew and nearly cost his own. Only he and his companion Janusk survived the return home, shipwrecked south of Lake Zabril and washing ashore South of New Pariden.
Rumors much later claim that during this journey, Relias had awoken the Fallen Enchantress Ceresa and doomed his crew. Others claim he had sold his crew to Quendar slavers, or to a Kraxan channeler for use in dark experiences. While the first could be possible, the others are more blatant slander.
Events of Elemental: War of Magic
After witnessing Kraxis's betrayal in the East and surviving the shipwreck that claimed his crew, he returned to warn the western kingdoms of the growing Fallen threat. When Relias did return from the East, and attempted to warn the Queen of the growing threat of the Fallen Empires he did find there, he was summarily dismissed by the Queen. He would then warn the other Kingdoms of Men in a campaign that culminated in the discovery and destruction of a Fallen encampment in the Central Wastes.
While Procipinee did not take Relias's warning seriously, the other Kingdoms of Men did, and this political cache allowed Relias to found a new Kingdom that accepted Men of all backgrounds, be they Amarian, Ironeer, Mancer, Tarthan, or even those of the Fallen races.
Those pushing the narrative that Relias as nothing but a pampered son of nobility claim he was he imprisoned for daring to publicly question the Queen's judgment and would be the poster boy of a revolt by the Pairan Nobility, and that was how Altar was founded. Again, this is propaganda used to paint Relias and by extent Altar as little more than power-hungry aristocracy.
